Congressional Black Caucus meets with POTUS Joe Biden

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congressman Steven Horsford and fellow leaders of the Congressional Black Caucus met with President Joe Biden and Vice President Harris to discuss racial equity, the COVID-19 pandemic, and economic opportunities for Black Americans in the American Jobs Plan.

“I was honored to meet with President Biden and Vice President Harris today to discuss racial equity, economic mobility, and the most pressing issues facing Black Americans as we rebuild and recover from COVID-19,” said Congressman Steven Horsford. “The disproportionate toll of the pandemic on communities of color and the recent deaths of Black Americans at the hands of law enforcement have further highlighted the importance of centering racial justice at the forefront of the White House agenda. President Biden has long maintained a strong relationship with the Congressional Black Caucus, and I have full faith in our path forward to build back better for Black Americans.”

During the meeting, Congressman Horsford spoke with President Biden about the need for workforce development investments in the American Jobs Plan to address job loss and the worsening wealth inequity among Black families, workers and small businesses. The conversation focused on expanding high-quality job-training opportunities for Black Americans to close the racial wealth gap and rebuild from the economic devastation of the pandemic. Congressman Horsford also asked President Biden about efforts to expand the ranks of Black Americans within the diplomatic corps.

Congressman Horsford serves as the First Vice Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus and leads the CBC First 100 Days Transition Task Force, which works closely with the Biden-Harris administration to advocate for the nomination, confirmation, and placement of Black Americans in high-ranking positions within the federal service.
