LAS VEGAS, NV – June 23, 2019 – The Economic Opportunity Board hosted their Town Hall Event at the Pearson Center to unveil their new vision, mission, and image in hopes of also connecting and engaging with the community.
The Town Hall Event consisted of a panel discussion and Q&A session featuring Tamara Collins-Golden (The Director of Programs for the Economic Opportunity Board of Clark County), Anthony Manor (The Cultural Program Supervisor of Clark County), Dr. Michael Maxwell (The Manager of Youth Development and Social Innovation for the City of Las Vegas), and Dalisa Steward (The Operations and Programs Manager for the Urban Chamber of Commerce).
The panel discussion allowed the panelists to express their opinions and goals they have for the Southern Nevada community including taking community members from, “…a state of dependency to independency.” When asked about the issue of employment, Dr. Michael Maxwell stated:
“We see a lot of jobs here in our community that don’t even come close to those livable wages…If you don’t have a livable wage you go from working to live to living to work.”
Attendees of the Town Hall were given the opportunity to engage with the panelists, staff, and the board members of the Economic Opportunity Board. Most of the concerns expressed were about affordable housing as well as the future of the development of Las Vegas.
