Empowering Communities: My Candidacy for CCSD Trustee District C

I am Tameka Henry candidate for the Clark County School District Board of Trustees for District C. I am also the Executive Director of The Obodo Collective and Las Vegas native. I have 4 children and my youngest daughter is currently a CCSD student. I have a profound commitment to enhancing education through increased family and community engagement, fostering collaboration, improving teacher retention, and advancing equitable access for all students. My candidacy stems from a deep-rooted belief in the transformative power of education and the vital role that trustees play in shaping the educational landscape of our community.

One of the primary pillars of my candidacy is to enhance family and community engagement in our schools. I firmly believe that when families are actively engaged in their children's education, students thrive. I have witnessed and lived this a parent and now Chairperson of the Board Acelero Learning Head Start. By fostering strong partnerships between schools, families, and communities, we can create a supportive ecosystem where every child has the opportunity to succeed. As a trustee, I will prioritize initiatives that promote family engagement, such as family workshops, community based meetings, and sharing data in a way that is digestible. By amplifying the voices of parents and community members, we can ensure that their perspectives are valued and integrated into decision-making processes.

Collaboration is key to addressing the complex challenges facing our education system. As trustee, I will work tirelessly to foster a culture of collaboration among stakeholders, including educators, administrators, parents, students, and community leaders. By bringing diverse perspectives to the table and embracing collective problem-solving, we can develop innovative solutions to improve educational outcomes for all students. I will champion collaborative initiatives that promote cross-sector partnerships, such as mentorship programs, career readiness initiatives, and academic support services. Together, we can create a cohesive network of support that empowers every student to be college, career  and community ready.

Teacher retention is a critical issue that demands immediate attention. Research shows that high teacher turnover rates can negatively impact student achievement and school climate. As trustee, I will advocate for policies and programs that support our educators and promote their professional growth and well-being. This includes offering competitive salaries, providing access to professional development opportunities, and creating a positive work environment that values and respects teachers' contributions. By investing in our educators and prioritizing their needs, we can attract and retain talented professionals who are dedicated to their craft and committed to nurturing the next generation of leaders.

Ultimately, our goal must be to achieve greater outcomes for students and equitable access to high quality education. As trustee, I will work to dismantle barriers to success, advocate for wrap around services, and ensure that every student, regardless of their background or zip code, has the resources and support they need to thrive. This includes addressing disparities in funding, resources,  opportunities, and advocating for policies that promote equity and inclusion. By prioritizing equity in decision-making processes and allocating resources strategically, we can create a more equitable and just educational system that serves the needs of all students.

In conclusion, my candidacy for CCSD Trustee District C is rooted in a deep-seated commitment to advancing education through increased family and community engagement, collaboration, teacher retention, and equitable access. By working together with families, communities, educators, and stakeholders, we can build a brighter future for our children and ensure that every student has the opportunity to succeed. I humbly ask for your support and trust as we embark on this journey together. Education is everybody's business and together, we can make a difference!
