NAACP Las Vegas to host candlelight vigil for victim of gun violence

The Las Vegas NAACP is hosting a candlelight vigil to honor the life of Se’Mauri Norris-Johnson. Se’Mauri was a 17-year-old student at Desert Pines High School who was killed while he was out trick-or-treating with friends. This candlelight vigil is intended to bring greater awareness to the ongoing problem of gun violence in our community and to generate greater public support for Se’Mauri’s family and their goals for a thorough and transparent investigation.

Where: We’re asking participants to meet at the corner of Spotted Pony Dr., & Camino Eldorado Pkwy in North Las Vegas.

Who: Elder Matthew Goins, Mountain Top Faith Ministries, Maureisha Johnson, Se’Mauri’s Mom, Quentin Savwoir, NAACP Las Vegas

When: Monday, November 13, 2023, at 5:30 p.m.

Why: The problem of gun violence continues to cripple our community and disproportionately impact our youth. Additionally, the NAACP is amplifying the family’s call for greater action in bringing justice to the person that killed Se’Mauri.

###

Se’Mauri Norris-Johnson: Se’Mauri was a loving son, big brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend to so many. Respectful, helpful, honest, so full of life. He touched so many with his contagious smile and silly personality. The spirit and light he carried brought compliments from not only strangers but anyone who was in his presence. Definitely one in a million.
